Excuses, Excuses....

My last post left us in lower Manhattan on a sunny Sunday morning. And I promise that I will do a full recap of that whole whirl-wind action packed trip. It's just that life here has been a little busy lately. Following my NYC getaway, one of my favorite girlfriends of all time came to stay with Dear D. and me for a few days. And kudos to her for her bravery in so doing because our place was completely discombobulated in preparation for our big move.

Wednesday we kicked the packing into high gear (s-t-r-e-s-s-f-u-l) which culminated in our MAJOR MOVING SALE on Saturday. Here's a tip: if you ever want to experience a really strange feeling, try opening your home to complete strangers and telling them that not only is virtually everything inside for sale, but that it's all priced to move. And then watch all your belongings get carted away faster than you can say Jack Robinson. The professional bargain-hunters were circling our block at 8:30 A.M. and our doors didn't open until 9:00. I'm happy to report that DevilDog was very well behaved during the whole ordeal. The cats hunkered down in the bedroom until the ruckus was over which, I guess, makes them well behaved as well.

Sunday we awoke at dawn and embarked on transporting all of the things we will keep (which, in light of how much we sold off the day before, is still a surprisingly large amount) into attics and garages and spare rooms at each of our parents' homes. It took us all day to pack and unpack the truck but here we are at nearly 9:00 P.M. and everything has been tucked safely away. Of course in between all that I continued to attend my bar prep class in Boston for four hours a day. Everyday. So yeah, it has been a bit nuts round here.

But it's all just groovy because tomorrow Dear D and I are slated to see Pearl Jam play their final show of their tour and my incredibly thoughtful mother is treating us to a hotel overnight after the show. So life is busy. But life is also very good.

You're exactly right Mrs. K, the major move distance-wise is in August. Between now and then we'll be residing with my parents. :)

I dont envy you the packing/moving. But isnt it oddly liberating to get rid of "stuff"?

Ive been dealing with that during my redecorating project and while its been very hard to just let go of things Ive had boxed up for years, its definitely opened my eyes and my mind to the difference between what we have/want and what we need.

Enjoy the Pearl Jam show! I had to give away my tickets because I wasnt able to take a day off due to my crazy workload, but Ive heard great things about this tour. :)

I had a feeling you have been busy with the packing and the bar exam studying.

That would be strange to have people in your house buying up your belongings. And yes, the garage sale people are always early, early, early.

Living with your parents, will you still be near the coast, beach, the harbor, etc. where you and Devil Dog seem so fond of taking morning walks? Oh, and the counting ducks ...

I'd like to have a moving sale without the move... a declutter sale. Anything and everything (except the J.Crew) is for sale -- for the right price! I can't wait to read about the upcoming journey!

It's so funny that you mention the ducklings, Rebecca, I was saying to D just yesterday that DevilDog would surly miss them. (Me too, for that matter)

My parents live close to both a park and the beach so this transition is a simple one. When we land in Hong Kong next month though it will be a whole different story!

So glad to hear things are moving along!
We had a "demolition" sale before we knocked down a beach house and somebody bought the coffee cups we were drinking out of..."I really could use six." That is what she said as I was taking a big gulp...so I took MBM's fresh hot cup of coffe dumped them and washed the cups....SOLD!

Pearl Jam puts on an awesome show - I know you guys'll have a great time!!
I would imagine it's absolutely liberating to sell all of the extra stuff - I couldn't do it, so I give you tons of credit. I bet it feels a little 'lighter' if that makes sense.
Good luck with the move- and living with the folks for the month, hey, it's tough too!! I can't beleive how fast HK is approaching!

Wow... that must be so surreal seeing all your stuff go! This is so exciting though! I wonder how Devil Dog will handle the move.

Wow--it's really happening!

The sale of all your stuff reminds me a white elephant sale we once had at Sophie's school. I practically had to beat off this woman who wanted to buy Sophie's car seat, which was NOT for sale. Some people are like buzzards.

Enjoy the concert!

We just had a moving sale and it was the same story. We also had people who came VERY early just to tell us they didn't want to pay for something even when the price was lowered to next to nothing--we're talking a dollar or five dollars for appliances or furniture items (inevitably these were also the people that asked the most questions and tried everything ten times), but said they would take it for free if it didn't sell. Then they would come back AN HOUR later to check whether it had sold and to see if they could have it for free! (However, the stuff would always be gone by the time they returned.)
